LOREZ ALEXANDRIA

hello everyone first who know and love lorez and others who are interested and like to find out more or even some people that will think who is she....well let me tell you.

born in august 14 1929 died in may 22 2001 in los angeles. birth name dolorez alexandria turner in chicago illinos. she began singing in church in her teens and spent 11 years in the mid 40s as part of a cappella choir then turn to jazz in the chicago club scene. with the release of several LPs for KING label between 1957-1959 lorez became more beyond her home town. by the early 60s she moved to los angeles and recorded with ARGO and IMPULSE, and later for PZAZZ, DISCOVERY, MUSE,HINDSIGHT, and cople of japan record labels. depite long periods off records, only a few in the 1965-1976 period. lorez survied though meny change in musical styles and could be heard in excellent form up in til the time she retired in the mid 90s. not long after retiring lorez suffered a stroke and her health declined until her death in may 2001.

THE REASON for this blogg is to gather a full insite of this amazing songstress her recordings, her style, her personal life. all i have is all her recorded lps and the internet.this is my first blog so any advice will be welcome also any information about lorez alexandria. i hope that the outcome will be a great tribute to this amazing singer.there is no web site only small pieces of information scattered around my frst job is to collect all information together, DISCOGRAPHY, INTERVIEWS,PHOTOS,REVIEWS. ect....

my first vinyl i brought by lorez was singing songs everyone knows back in 1985 when i was 14 years old ok not a popular choice in the mid 80s. i still was into aretha, chaka ,disco and dance music but for the times i need to unwind and chill out i was getting into jazz like nancy wilson, carmen mcrae and sarah vaughan.

back to lorez alexandria SINGING SONGS EVERYONE KNOWS. I never heard of her before and was a total impulse buy in a sale rack in second hand record strore. some songs were familar to me so why not 5 pounds was nothing.going home looking at the vinyl made me think this is old the record thick and heavy and the sleave worn and been enjoyed. i thought first who is this singer was she white looking at the photo on the cover, was she any good and will this record play on my basic player..........................................................

if you have or can get a copy now it is on cd please it is a must my favour tracks are then ill be tird of you, spring is here, angel eyes and sometimes im happy total classic with out effort she glides through these wonderful songs showing her different jazz styling to the lyrics and arangments.ok some people might argue she aint no billie holiday or ella fitzgerald or sarah vaughan or dinah washington or carmen mcrae or any other female jazz singer in that era, but that is a good thing because lorez does not copy she is an original. yes she has recorded songs made more popular by the above artist but she does them lorez way.some i must be honest like billie singing youre my thrillis more suited to billie but by no meens lorez is not quality, everyone to their own. just enjoy the music.
